Credit(s): 3 Lecture: 3 Non-Lecture: 0 A survey of the major concerns and theories of applied linguistics. Emphasis is on various analyses of first and second language acquisition in general and the communicative and functional approaches in particular. Major topics include the developmental stages of language acquisition, the differences between first and second language acquisition, language universals and core grammar, interlanguage, and culture learning in the second language classroom, etc.
