Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Academic Programs

The Minor in the Mathematics of Computer Science prepares students to be mathematically informed computer scientists. Students in the Minor take a core set of mathematics courses, and computing courses that apply the mathematics to important problems in computer science. The Minor gives students a foundation for careers or further study in computing, mathematics, applied mathematics, and similar fields.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Minor in Mathematics of Computer Science, students will be able to:

  • Construct mathematical justifications for computer algorithms, including stating or identifying relevant definitions and theorems, proving theorems, and deriving necessary formulas
  • Reduce algorithms to working programs in at least one programming language
  • Describe at least one example of how appropriate mathematical models lead to correct and efficient algorithms and programs to solve computing problems.

Total Credits Required to Complete Minor: 23
