Examines health and illness as social phenomena. Focuses on how individual experience with illness is influenced by social context. Topics include the social construction of health and illness, the experience of acute and chronic diseases, the nature and role of social support, and the self and illness. Offered every year.

Prerequisite(s): Any 100-level Sociology course or permission of instructor.
