MUSC 231 - Introduction to Ethnomusicology

An overview of the study of world music. This course will study musical traditions in light of distinctive technical characteristics; social and political roles; and local, national and international transmission and identity, both historically and as they are practiced to the present. Course requirements will call on students to engage in individual fieldwork and notate musical transcriptions.

Prerequisite(s): MUSC 189
