DANL 202 - Introduction to Programming in Python

This course introduces the essential general programming concepts and techniques to data analytics audiences with basic programming experience. The goal of the course is to help students unlock the potential of data analysis and improve the ability to transform data into a powerful tool in business decision making. Students will develop fundamental data analytics skills to prepare for a career or future learning that involves more advanced topics in the Data Analytics program. During the course, students will work hands-on with the Python programming language and its associated data analysis modules. The course will discuss programming basics in the first part and exploratory and statistical data analysis in the second part. Topics covered in the first part include (1) introduction to Data Analytics thinking; (2) data types such as numbers, strings, and Boolean (or logical values); and (3) control and programming structures such as conditionals, loops, and functions. Topics covered in the second part include (1) creating informative visualization with data, (2) transforming and wrangling data, and (3) exploratory data analysis and basics in regression analysis.

Prerequisite(s): (ECON 205  or GEOG 278  or MATH 242  or MATH 262  or PLSC 251  or PSYC 250  or SOCL 211 )  and  DANL 101
