Engaged Philosophy

The ICM in Engaged Philosophy encourages students to apply philosophical concepts to real-world problems, and to use real-world experiences to reflect upon and refine their understanging of philosophical concepts.

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Develop argumentative and evaluative skills based in philosophy’s methods.

2. Apply philosophical methods to address real-world problems in a variety of contexts.

3. Develop an awareness of the value of philosophy in addressing real-world problems in a variety of contexts.

Requirements:

1. Any two PHIL courses (6 credits)

AND

2. Documentation of completion of a PHIL-sponsored engaged/applied experience (for example, TAing via INTD 305, completion of an internship via PHIL 395, participation in the high school outreach program, serving as a student representative to the department, serving in a leadership role in Philosophy Club, completing a Philosophy faculty-led study abroad program)

AND

3. Completion of a self-reflective statement (to be guided by a Google Form or Brightspace module)
