SPED 382 - Assessment Design, Interpretation, and Data Informed Planning for Students with Disabilities 2024-2025 Catalog Year

This course has three components: assessment design, assessment implementation, and using data to inform instructional planning. Professionals working with students all grades (levels Pre K-12) with special needs must be prepared to (a) identify and develop formative and summative assessment instruments and procedures that are appropriate for the curriculum and context -student characteristics including cultural and linguistic diversity, setting, subject area, etc.; (b) evaluate the adequacy of assessment instruments, (c) use assessment data for multiple purposes (e.g., estimating student performance, developing an educational plan, and measuring student progress), and (d) interpret standardized assessment data. In addition, professionals in special education must be able to communicate the assessment information they collect in a manner that can be understood by other professionals, ancillary personnel, and parents. Candidates must receive a letter grade of C- or higher to move to Block VI. Candidates will be allowed one retake of this course due to failure or withdrawal.
