SPED 385 - Team Approaches to Education of Students with Disabilities 2024-2025 Catalog Year

This course emphasizes developing effective communication techniques to use with personnel in educational settings of all grades (levels Pre K-12), including parents of individuals with disabilities and ancillary personnel. The development of skills necessary to serve in a consulting capacity to the regular classroom teacher working with individuals with disabilities will be covered as well as collaboration with other professionals, including outside agencies that facilitate transition. The special educator will take on many roles, thus another purpose of this course is to examine the different roles and functions of the special educator and how this person will work with others. Emphasis will be placed on culturally responsive interaction with students, parents, paraprofessionals, professionals, and volunteers.
Candidates will receive a letter grade and must receive a C- or higher to move to student teaching Candidates will be allowed one retake of this course due to failure or withdrawal.
