Admission to the Neuroscience Major

Admission Procedure

Students may not enter the college as declared Neuroscience majors. To be admitted into the Neuroscience program, students must first:

  1. Complete a minimum of two full-time academic semesters at the college and earn a minimum of 24 credit hours in course work at Geneseo.
  2. Complete a minimum of 8 credits required for the Neuroscience major in course work at Geneseo.
  3. Earn a 2.85 cumulative GPA or higher.
  4. Submit by, June 1, an Application Form available in Bailey 145, indicating their desire to major in Neuroscience.

Students may apply for admission to the Neuroscience program when they meet the above criteria, and will be notified of their acceptance by the director of the Neuroscience program by June 30th.

Acceptance will be based primarily on consideration of GPA, relevance of coursework completed, and input from members of the Neuroscience faculty.

Incoming freshmen interested in being admitted to the Neuroscience program are strongly encouraged to take the appropriate introductory courses during their first two semesters.

Transfer Student Policy

Transfer students may apply to the Neuroscience program if they have successfully completed, at the time of application, a minimum of 30 credit hours at another institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Transfer students who have successfully completed fewer than 30 credit hours at another institution, with a minimum GPA of 3.0, may apply for admission to the Neuroscience program upon completion of at least 15 credit hours at Geneseo. A minimum cumulative GPA at Geneseo of 2.85 is required.

Change of Major Policy

Students accepted into the Neuroscience program must complete and submit a Change/Declaration of Major form. The completed form and the student’s advisement folder should be submitted to the director of the Neuroscience program in Bailey 145. Change of major requests are not processed during the pre-registration and drop/add periods.
