ENGL 361 - History of the English Language 2020-2021 Catalog Year
Credit(s): 4 Lecture: 4 Non-Lecture: 0 A historical survey of the English language, introducing the techniques of historical linguistic research and contrasting the phonology, grammar, and lexicon of Old and Middle English with that of Modern British and American English. The course also considers the growth and distribution of “World Englishes,” including Canadian, Indian, Southern Hemisphere varieties as well as English creoles and pidgins. Students also contribute to an updated edition of the Dictionary of Geneseo English.
Prerequisite(s): ENGL 203 .
