HIST 275 - Global History of Sexual Science 2020-2021 Catalog Year
Credit(s): 4 Lecture: 4 Non-Lecture: 0 This course provides students with a rich exploration of the history of sexual science (sexology) on a global scale from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century. Scientific approaches to sex, gender, and sexuality varied in their methods and subjects overtime, and thus we will read a range of materials, including historical, medical, psychiatric, anthropological, journalistic, philosophical, and literary texts, among others. Sexology was the modern discipline, and from Bombay to Berlin, Mexico City to Buenos Aires, Tokyo to Shanghai, it was a defining force in the modern world.
