COMN 376 - Music as Communication 2022-2023 Catalog Year
Credit(s): 4 Lecture: 4 Non-Lecture: 0 Music has the capacity to constitute identities, mobilize audiences, shape technological practices, and serve as cultural resources. This course reviews communication literature on various genres of music from around the world, and explores innovative theories and critical methods for analyzing the confluence of lyric, melody, rhythm, and performance from a communication perspective. Through this course, students will identify, investigate, and analyze how various songs and music videos communicate social issues within human interaction, such as post colonialism, globalization, migration, war, public memory, and social (in)justice.
