COMN 453 - Advertising as Social Communication 2022-2023 Catalog Year
Credit(s): 4 Lecture: 4 Non-Lecture: 0 An investigation of historical and contemporary advertising as a form of mass persuasion. The course examines what advertising is as a communication form, its impact on society, how it is shaped and regulated by the social context in which it occurs, and conceptual guidelines for its evaluation. Since the course assumes a critical approach, the interrelationship of advertising with social norms, constraints, values, and ideologies is examined.
